The associations of people with disabilities instructed the Aktionsbündnis für barrierefreie Informationstechnik (AbI) to support an independent and ambitious testing certificate. The test procedure was developed by the workshop "Test" of the AbI-project together with DIN CERTCO. It is based upon the main test that is recommended by the AbI-project. DIN CERTCO published the certification program "accessible website" in autumn 2006.
The procedure orientates toward the Barrierefreien Informationstechnik-Verordnung (BITV). If the provider wants to receive two or three stars, then understandability has to be checked separately. If the verification of understandability fails then a maximum of one star can be awarded. To receive a certification, a provider has to prove a sustainable, process-oriented quality assurance and describe how accessibility shall be ensured on a long-term basis.
The verification for a certification can be handled for you by WEB for ALL. Additional information can be obtained from kontakt@webforall.info.
A website with the DIN CERTCO-sign "DIN-Geprüft barrierefreie Website" (DIN-certified accessible website) can be operated well by people with disabilities. The certificate shows, that the criteria of BITV are fulfilled.
