The best barrier-free German language web presences are presented with awards every year during the BIENE competition. BIENE means "Barrier-free Internet opens new insights" ( Barrierefreies Internet Eröffnet Neue Einsichten ). The competition was founded in 2003 by Aktion Mensch and the Stiftung Digitale Chancen. More than 1.000 enterprises, public authorities and ministries from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and South Tirol have registered to take part.
The next competition will take place during spring 2008. The assessment criteria will be worked on until 2008.Web 2.0 should be strongly considered by the evaluation.

InternetDorf started in Baden-Württemberg 1999 and is a nationally unique competition. It is organized by the Akademie Ländlicher Raum, the Gemeindetag and the MFG Baden-Württemberg. Independent counties of Baden-Württemberg with up to 20.000 citizens can apply for the contest.
The aim of the contest is to increase the quality of communal websites. One of the awards is given for the best accessibility. Accessibility is one of the criteria for the final award. The accessibility of websites for people with disabilities is evaluated by the jury members of WEB for ALL.
