Alliance Action for accessible Information Technology, Abl Project


Objectives
- Make the internet and intranet for people with various disabilities. Focus areas are: work, education and training, e-learning and internet job searches.
- The AbI Project promotes co-operation initiatives and projects dealing with accessibility on the internet. The working groups are voluntary initiatives and institutions are active. Internet agencies can also be part of this network as supporters.
- The sustainable accessibility should be supported by: Public relations materials, training courses and other meetings.

Heidelberg city guide for people with disabilities
Objectives
- Blind and visually impaired people should be able to find their way independently in Heidelberg. The route to important public facilities should be easy to follow.
- Wheelchair users can read which restaurants, cafes, hotels, parks, cultural and educational facilities are accessible for them.
- Hearing impaired people should be able to find out which facilities have hearing aid devices available.

City guide "Simply experience Heidelberg"
Objectives
- WEB for ALL works with 12 - 16 years olds to make a Heidelberg city guide in simple language.
- To encourage the collaboration between children and young people with and without disabilities.
- Children and adolescents with learning disabilities are actively involved in the project.

Country without barriers, LOB-Project
Objectives
- Disabled and elderly people living in Baden-Württemberg should be able to navigate easily through the internet.
- Internet sites with greater significance for the elderly and disabled rural dwellers should be made more accessible.
- Elderly and disabled people are to be supported at home by volunteer supervisors. This individual supervision currently offered in 3 regions.
Selected results
- The easy to understand "How can I navigate the internet?" guide for disabled and elderly internet users.
- Over 30 volunteers to support 100 users.
- More than 100 participants trained in accessibility web design training: 3 courses for beginners and 5 courses for experts. 250 participants were made aware of accessibility issue in 6 meetings.
- The Websites of 35 districts of Baden-Württemberg were reviewed for accessibility.

Project "Accessibility learning"

Objectives
- Allow training or qualification of disabled web designers and programmers to enable them to work in agencies and multimedia departments.
- To increase the employability of disable people.
- To encourage the internet to be more accessible.
Selected results
- Provide 9 training courses for web designers and allow for spreading this information through network.
- Training of 16 people with disabilities; 9 severely disabled web designers were trained for over a month
