The goal: One Internet for all

For many disabled and old people the Internet is very important, because disabilities can be partially compensated. With the computer people can move without having to leave their home. Thus, barriers in buildings or means of public transport can be avoided. The Internet allows people to do their shopping online instead of having to go to the next city.  With the computer they can find a place of employment or they can attend vocational training from home. Therefore it is important that there is full accessibility within the Internet and within organisation's and companies' Intranets. Only accessible pages can be used by everybody.

  • WEB for ALL supports an accessible Internet and Intranet. People with disabilities and old people should be able to access all information easily. We want one Internet for all. In web design any kind of disability should be considered: blindness and low vision, limited movement, cognitive limitations and deafness or hearing loss. Accessibility must not go only for one kind of disability. The German anti discrimination law (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz) does not exclude any kind of disability.
  • WEB for ALL also cares for the needs of elderly people whose difficulties with the Internet can be similar to those of users with disabilities. For elderly people it is often hard to move the mouse to the appropriate place. Many have visual or hearing limitations.
  • WEB for ALL supports the usage of an easy and understandable language. For people with cognitive limitations or language problems at least the texts of social organisations or authorities should be easy to understand.
  • WEB for ALL focuses on the user. Therefore, usability and accessibility are the key aspects. We want to raise awareness for the fact that accessibility and appealing design do not exclude each other. By training online editors we want to achieve a long term establishment of accessibility.

Our target groups

By training, presentations, tests and consulting, WEB for ALL supports the accessible design of websites. We address people who are responsible for the creation of websites and their contents.

Our main target groups are:

  • website providers
  • web designers
  • developers
  • online-editors

The main focus is websites which need to be accessible by law (law against discrimination). WEB for ALL therefore especially address public institutions, national and local authorities, cities and counties. Further target groups are institutions and organisations which are especially important for people with disabilities or elderly people: for example - charity organisations, health and social services, churches or self-help groups. Increasingly private providers ask for consulting. Companies who sell products via the Internet realise that their customers demand that their websites are accessible.
